Stereo Skateboards newest rider, Ben Fisher, is a rarity among skateboarders. Generally most up and coming ams throw caution to the wind and worry about the now — never planning for the future. Fisher is just the opposite: he works very hard on the now, (just watch his welcome video part that’s a minute plus longer than what Stereo asked for), but his sights are locked on the horizon down the road. He’s currently studying real estate and realizes he might not be the next Paul Rodriguez — but he’ll be able to sell Rodriguez his next house.

XGames.com caught up with Fisher to discuss Stereo, Stacks and the art of driving stick.

XGames.com: How did you get on Stereo?
Fisher: I was on Stacks [Skateboards] and I had skated with Chris [Pastras] and Jason [Lee] before at The Berrics and seen them about in LA. We always said hi to each other and have been super cool. Once Stacks went out of business they (Stereo) hit me up and asked what was up. We took it from there. I told them where I wanted to be and they were down to back me and now I’m here.

Nate Greenwood hails from West Springfield, Massachusetts and came our way by word of mouth and the good folks at Theory Skate Shop. When we all saw his footage, our jaws dropped collectively. It was immediately clear the world needed to see this video part. Speaking to Nate, you immediately realize he’s a humble cool fellow, and manages to skate this good while working at a skate shop and attending college full time. We are proud to announce Nate Greenwood as our newest Stereo team member.

Sometimes, when my cat jumps into a cardboard box I’ll quickly shut the lid and carefully carry the whole special package to another part of the house. I’ll set it down, open it up and he’ll pop his head up and look around at his new surroundings.
“You went in the teleportation module!” I’ll announce, grinning at my furry friend.
The cat will stare me down with his piercing feline eyes.
“You reckless bastard” his little cat expression says. “You did not take adequate clean room precautions!” he reprimands. “There could have been a fly in here and our DNA could have got all jumbled up together! What the hell were you thinking?”
He’s right. It is dangerous.
This is why the latest Following video is the best so far. Virtuoso sidewalk surfer and solid friend of the bird Kyle Leeper already knew about the perils of teleportation yet he forged ahead all the same.
Here’s how it came to be: I transported my life to Portland to wallow in the misery of a northwestern winter. My departure from Southern California of course left a gaping hole but instead of getting depressed about what was gone Kyle got sparked on all that remained; smart Kyle. Joe Pease and him blasted around the streets of San Diego fearlessly hyperlinking between spots with little regard for the inherent hazards. Stereo Skateboards pro, Kyle Leeper, lives in Carlsbad, California, with his wife, his son, his fish, 2 dogs and another baby on the way. Below we discuss 7 profound topics including sponsorship deals, human reproduction, this video project and generally being stoked.

1. When’s the 2nd child due?
Due right around the same time date as my first son was born, late August.
Damn! So you guys must get horny right around the same time of year.
Yup, right around December I’m ready to go!
Well, it gets cold.
Yeah, these harsh Carlsbad winters get pretty gnarly.
2. How long have you been riding for Stereo?
A couple of years I think. I could be wrong give or take a year either way.
Have you been on many trips with those dudes?
Yeah, we’ve done a couple. We did an Arizona trip which was pretty cool. We did an article for Skateboarder. We also did a trip out to New Jersey and New York and did a couple of demonstrations and skated around New York for a week. That was a good one.
Who was the crew on those?
Arizona was pretty much the whole team: Jack Sabback, Clint Peterson, Raymond, Benny Fairfax, Chris Maalouf, Alex Schmitt, Pastras was out there. It was actually a WESC collaboration trip so Ray Barbee was there, that was pretty awesome. A few other heads were there and then New York was pretty much the same posse plus Jason Lee was there on that one.
How was being on a trip with Jason Lee?
It was pretty cool. We skated the cruiser boards around one night. That was pretty awesome. I’ve hung out with him a couple of times but…

Stereo has a long history of riders who possess that extra little something that subtly sets them apart from the others. Ethan Fowler, Jason Lee, Pastras, Renaud, Raymond, Clint and on and on. They’re all different but because of their finesse, power and individual styles and takes on skateboarding, they all emanate that classic Stereo vibe that we’ve come to expect from the Sound Agency. So when last year Stereo announced some team additions I was curious who would be on board. Alex was one of them and sure enough his skating has that subtlety inherent to all the classic Stereo riders.

I met Alex in the van on the way out to Arizona for the first Stereo team trip in a few years. He was one of the more motivated people on the trip, skating every spot and getting something at pretty much every one of them whether it was for the cameras or not. After the trip he kept the ball rolling, going out with Aaron and various photographers to shoot, so we decided to do an interview with him to get to know him a little better. Enjoy. :

Who are you, where are you from and who do you ride for?
My name’s Alex Schmidt, I’m from Leucadia, California and I skate for Stereo, Theeve Trucks, Insight clothing and I actually just got my first Nike box yesterday so I’m pretty stoked on that.
